CHEERS TO SOBER FUN
It's no secret that university is deep-set in drinking and party culture. Maybe this isn't your thing, or maybe it is but you're bored of spending all your money on nights out and want a change of scenery. To help you plan some sober activities, I’ve put together a list of some of my favourite things to do with friends.
COFFEE/LUNCH/DINNER
Going out for coffee, lunch or dinner can be a fun way to spend time with your friends. In first year especially, this can really allow you to get to know new friends you've made. Try exploring some new cafes or restaurants in your area. You might find that some eateries offer a student discount, which is always a plus.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Planning some outdoor activities can also be a fun way to spend free time. Whether this is going for a walk or run in a nearby park by yourself or friends, or going somewhere a bit more unique. Here are a few suggestions if you are willing to be a bit more adventurous with outdoor experiences:Golf range
Outdoor activity centres e.g. https://goape.co.uk/
Ski / snow centres
For those who are on a budget, the perfect sober activity can simply be a night in. This can be a good way to get to know your new flatmates in first year or just spend some time with friends. A movie night complete with snacks is always a good idea. Alternatively, a games night can be equally entertaining. Cosy nights can lead to a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can unwind and forget about the stresses of studying.
PAINTING
If you’ve been on TikTok recently, I’m sure you’ve seen a surge of people doing “wholesome” activities with friends, a popular choice for this is activities which involve painting - on literally anything. Whether this means going to a class or buying your own supplies, this is certainly different to a traditional night out. You can always paint on a plain canvas, but here are some ideas which are popular at the moment:Wine glasses
Mugs
Bowls
Plates
